I literally get between five-to-ten texts and tweets a day, asking when Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy will return to the booth.

Now, we have our answer. According to the Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham, Remy is set to return to his post, that he has held for over 20 years, this coming Tuesday, which is the first game of a nine-game home stand.

At first, we had heard that Remy was battling allergies, which was originally his reason for missing time in the booth. But in the first week of June, Remy tweeted that he had been battling pneumonia.

Thx for your thoughts-I’ve caught a little pneumonia and it has to run it’s course-it’s NOT due to anything else-hope to be back soon-Jerry

— Jerry Remy (RemDawg) (@Jerry_Remy) June 5, 2013

The Boston Globe’s Chad Finn has more on Remy’s condition, but Remy insists that the reasons given for his absence were accurate.

“Everything I said at the beginning was true,” said Remy. “I was working a Sunday game [May 26 versus Cleveland] and did have an allergy attack. I thought that that would improve after a couple of days. It actually got worse the Monday night that I worked. I went to the doctor the following day, and I was told at that time I had pneumonia.’’

While pneumonia certainly sucks, it was a relief to know that the reason for his time off wasn’t something more serious than that. While, admittedly, I love listening to Dennis Eckersley in Remy’s absence, it will be great to get Don Orsillo and Remy back in the booth together to make us all laugh on a nightly basis.

Craig Breslow is often regarded as one of the smartest men in baseball. Breslow majored in molecular biophysics at Yale University while captaining the Bulldogs baseball team, and scored a 1410 on the SAT which prompted the Minneapolis St. Paul Tribune to proclaim him “the smartest man in baseball.” In addition, Breslow has been one of the most consistent relievers for the Red Sox this year, posting a 1.86 ERA, 0.98 WHIP with 12 strikeouts in 19.1 innings pitched.

His most significant contribution, however, has come off the field with his charity, The Strike 3 Foundation.

The charity was founded in 2008 by Breslow with a mission to raise awareness, support and funding for childhood cancer research, which has a personal connection to the left-handed reliever.

“My sister is a pediatric thyroid cancer survivor and so, childhood cancer was kind of a natural fit in terms of raising money and awareness,” Breslow said.

In addition to supporting a cause that touches Breslow personally, the charity has allowed him to continue pursuing his passion in medicine off of the field.

Bailey began work with the Strike 3 Foundation when he met Breslow in Oakland.

“I’ve always been interested in medicine and I applied to medical school,” said Breslow. “I thought that I would potentially be a physician right now and the work with Strike 3 has allowed me to remain connected in the medical field”

Another member of the Red Sox bullpen has become a driving force with the charity. Closer Andrew Bailey has become an integral part of the charity since he met Breslow while the two played together in Oakland.

“I met Andrew when I was playing in Oakland and he’s got northeastern roots, growing up in New Jersey, moving to Connecticut. He attended one of our events and liked the cause and what we do,” Breslow said. “He has gotten increasingly involved to the point that three years ago, he joined our board and has really helped to develop our brand.”

Breslow and Bailey are hosting a charity event on June 24 at the Alden Castle called “Sip Happens.” The four hour event will be a wine and food pairing event that will have beverages from both local and California vineyards and food from participating Boston restaurants.

“A number of popular restaurants in the area are serving as food stations and donating food, donating beverages, donating desserts. We’ve got a silent auction and I’m expecting a pretty good turnout from the teammates,” Breslow said. “It seems like they are all pretty interested in supporting the event and I think it’ll be a cocktail type reception. It should be a good experience, but most importantly we’ll raise some meaningful dollars.”

Breslow says that he is really looking forward to see his teammates come out to the event and support the cause.

“I think we’ve got a pretty good clubhouse here and a pretty good civic responsibility and I think guys understand that importance of being visible in the community,” Breslow said. “ I’m looking forward to them enjoying themselves but also interacting with the guests and realizing how valuable they are to the success of the charitable efforts that together we as players partake in.”

While pitching out of the bullpen is his current career, Breslow says that he would want to continue giving back to the community even after his playing days. A career in medicine is something he would consider pursuing to do just that.

“We’ll have to see where I am, how my baseball career plays out,” Breslow said. “Medicine is something that I’ve always been interested in so it’s sort of a realistic aspiration potentially more than playing professional baseball. I can’t think of anymore worthwhile or gratifying work.”

Wednesday is another split schedule in Major League Baseball meaning there’s two sets of matchups to enjoy. The afternoon window has four matchups and there’s a dozen games on the slate tonight. My lineup will be for the evening games, as usual. Each Monday-Saturday morning I post my lineup here at SportsReel Boston and hopefully it can be helpful to you as you fill out your lineup card for daily fantasy baseball (full archive here; results at the bottom of the page).

Our daily league coverage is brought to you thorough our partnership with Draft Kings. We’re also offering a SportsReel T-shirt and $5 free as a registration bonus if you follow the link above or click the logo to the right of the post. All you have to do is create your account and deposit just $25 (details also available here). Throughout the season, you can play at Draft Kings and show your baseball knowledge.

Last night was bizarro night across the league as normally reliable ace’s got hit hard and some pitchers who had been getting hit hard pitched extremely well. Even with all the unpredictability, my team was on the verge of getting a low-scoring double-up victory. The Giants bullpen couldn’t hold the lead though, and Nick Franklin was retired in the tenth leaving me within three points of a money spot but definitely on the wrong side. Getting zeroes from Jacoby Ellsbury and Jay Bruce and a poor performance from Adam Wainwright ultimately doomed my lineup yesterday. Hopefully, tonight I can turn things back around with the lineup below.

One of the main things to check for fantasy baseball daily is if your selections are in the right matchup. For a look at who is in a matchup that merits either upgrading or downgrading check out our daily matchup post where you’ll find three matchups to attack and three to avoid each day. Sometimes situations change due to weather or players being out of the lineup because of injury or rest. If I adjust my lineup, I’ll let you know on twitter @ZT_Sports where I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have as well.

Here’s my stating lineup for Wednesday, June 19:

My Starting Lineup

SP- Chris Sale-Chicago White Sox: Sale is the kind of pitcher that pays off on Draft Kings. He pitches deep into the game and piles up strikeouts. His last outing he scored 45 points with 14 K’s in Houston while not allowing an earned run. He took the hard-luck loss in that one and will try to get back in the win column tonight against the Twins. His ERA is a little higher on the road but his strikeout rate is also typically a bit higher. Last year in three starts against the Twins he went 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA and 16 K’s in 20 innings. Sale looks to be lined up for another good one tonight.

SP-Gio Gonzalez-Washington Nationals: Gio has been good in June so far with three starts in which he’s pitched a total of 20 innings striking out 22 with a 1.80 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. He takes on the Phillies for the first time this year, but last year dominated them going 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA in four starts with 29 K’s in 25 innings. If he can stay in form, he’ll be a solid start fo the Nats in Philly tonight.

C- Yadier Molina-St. Louis Cardinals: Molina continues to consistently produce offensively. He’s hitting .367 after going 3-3 yesterday and is now at .410 for the month of June. He’s picked up 12 of his 39 RBI this month and has nine doubles along with a home run in 61 at-bats. Tonight, he faces Edwin Jackson who he is 8-12 against in his career with two homers and four RBI. He’s a great option behind the plate in St. Louis tonight.

1B- Adam Lind-Toronto Blue Jays: Lind’s on a tear right now and demolinshing right-handed pitching like Rockies starter Juan Nicasio. Lind has collected multiple hits in four of his last seven games while going 11-29 with a pair of home runs, a double, and seven RBI. His average for the season is all the way up to .342 and this month he’s over .400 with four homers and 14 RBI coming so far this month. As long as he’s in the lineup, he’s a great start today at Rogers Centre tonight.

2B-Nick Franklin-Seattle Mariners: Franklin and Rendon (see below) are everyay starters who contribute and are available at a cost that allows you the flexibility to get the other players you want. Frnaklin is hitting .296 on the season after going 1-4 last night. He’s hit in seven straight as he comes into tonight’s matchup where he’ll face C.J. Wilson for the first time.

3B-Anthony Rendon-Washington Nationals: The Nats continue to start Rendon everyday at 2B and hit him second in the lineup. Tonight he’ll face Kyle Kendrick who has struggled recently. Rendon only went 1-4 yesterday against Cliff Lee but is still hitting .395 for the month and .338 for the season. I think the Nats will be able to score runs and that Rendon will be able to contribute points as a result.

SS- Andrelton Simmons-Atlanta Braves: Simmons went 2-3 with a pair of walks and two stolen bases last night against the Mets after going 1-4 in the opener of the double-header. He had been struggling recently but is showing signes of breaking out of it the last few games. Facing Mets starts Shaun Marcum will only help since Simmons is 3-6 of Marcum with a double in their past meetings. Simmons hasn’t homered since his fifth which came back on May 18 against the Dodgers, but he has started to steal bases with three steals in the last four games and four this month with his total for the year at just five. Simmons has multiple ways to help the Braves and your fantasy team.

OF- Josh Reddick-Oakland Athletics: The A’s face Justin Grimm who they hit hard the last time they faced him and has been hit hard by everyone lately. Reddick went 1-4 with a stolen base yesterday and is starting to pick things up this month after a tough start. The last seven days he’s hitting .320 (8-25) and in June he’s .283 (17-60) with a pair of long balls. In his first two plate appearances against Grimm, Reddick has a pair of singles.

OF- Josh Hamilton-Los Angeles Angels: Hamilton is a value pick as his value continues to drop. He hit a home run in the series opener on Monday against the Mariners while going 2-5. Last night he took the collar going 0-5. He faces Joe Saunders tonight who he is 4-10 against with a triple, home run, and six RBI. It’s a risk, but I think Hamilton can contribute and is cheap at 3,900.

OF- Michael Cuddyer-Colorado Rockies: Cuddyer and Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle go way back. He’s faced Buehrle 107 times in his career. So far, Cuddyer seems to enjoy it hitting .318 with three homers, 11 doubles, and 13 RBI. He currently has a 16-game hitting streak going and this month has is hitting .333 (16-48) with four doubles, two homers, and six RBI. Cuddyer is playing well and has a good history against his opponent making him a good play for tonight in Toronto.

So get in the action and check back for my lineup later this morning.

Here’s my 3 up and 3 down for Wednesday’s action.

3 Lineups to Upgrade

Oakland Athletics @ Justin Grimm (Texas Rangers): Grimm has gotten hammered in his last nine starts watching his ERA balloon from 1.59 all the way to 5.59. In all nine of those starts, he’s allowed at least five hits and multiple runs. One of those starts was against the A’s who scored five in five innings on seve hits and a pair of home runs. Grimm’s BAA on the year is up to .301 making Oakland starters good grabs for tonight. Some A’s with good numbers against him in limited appearances include Brandon Moss (2-3, HR) Yoenis Cespedes (1-3, HR), and Josh Reddick (2-2)

Boston Red Sox vs Jeremy Hellickson (Tampa Bay Rays): The Sox haven’t faced Hellickson since April 15 when he struck out nine on his way to allowing two runs in seven innings. He’s struggled in the majority of his starts since then, though, allowing five runs or more in four of his last six outings. His last start he allowed eight runs on ten hits to the Royals in 5 2/3 innings. Overall, the Sox hitters don’t have tons of great numbers against him, but David Ortiz is the exception going 7-19 with with a pair of home runs, three RBI, and six walks giving him a solid 1.309 OPS against him.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Juan Nicasio (Colorado Rockies): The Blue Jays offense is starting to click having scored more than five runs in six of their last eight games including hanging eight on the Rockies last night. Tonight they’ll take on Nicasio who has allowed multiple runs in his last five starts including allowing three of more in four of thos five games. His BAA is .251 for the season, but in June his ERA is 5.09.

3 Lineups to Downgrade

Cincinnati Reds vs Jeff Locke (Pittsburgh Pirates): Locke comes into tonight’s starts at 6-1 with a 2.19 ERA and a .205 BAA. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in his last 11 starts. He faced Cincinnati way back in his second start of the year allowing a run in five innings. Locke doesn’t give up many hits allowing three of fewer hits in eight of his last 11 starts.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Gio Gonzalez (Washington Nationals): Gonzalez has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his last eight starts and is holding opponents to a .200 batting average on the year despite some early rough outings. He has yet to face the Phils this season but was 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA and a .196 BAA in four starts against them last year.

Colorado Rockies @ Mark Buehrle (Toronto Blue Jays): Buehrle’s ERA and WHIP are still ugly from his early season struggled, but don’t let that fool you. He’s been excellent this month with an ERA of 1.80 in his three starts. He’s held opponents to three earned runs or fewer in his last six starts and is starting to turn things around like the rest of the Blue Jays. I’d steer clear from the Rockies tonight.

Manager John Farrell said before the doubleheader Tuesday against the Rays that he would throw a bullpen session that would likely determine whether or not he would be placed on the disabled list.

After a quick bullpen session that ended with a fist bump, Buchholz sat down in the bullpen.

Twenty minutes later, he was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to June 9th.

Rookie Allen Webster is the leading candidate to come up from Pawtucket and make the spot start for Buchholz on Saturday against Detroit.

Ryan Lavarnway was called up to take the roster spot of Buchholz. Catcher David Ross was also placed on the 7-day concussion list. Pitcher Alex Wilson was called up to replace Ross on the roster.

Whether or not Clay Buchholz makes a trip to the disabled list is all dependent on how the right-hander progresses in a throwing session between games in today’s doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Buchholz will throw off of flat ground before the decision is made as to whether or not he will throw a bullpen session.

Manager John Farrell stated in his morning press conference that Buchholz will need to throw a bullpen session both today and Thursday if he’s going to make his start on Saturday.

If Buchholz is unable to pitch, the Red Sox will consider bringing up either Allen Webster or Rubby De La Rosa from Pawtucket.

De La Rosa was up with the Red Sox for one game during the Orioles series in Baltimore, but did not pitch.

Webster was last up with the Red Sox on May 8th, where he pitched 1.2 innings, gave up eight runs, two HR, three BB, struck out two batters in a 15-8 blowout loss against the Minnesota Twins.

Is De La Rosa is called up, Buchholz would be eligible to come off of the disabled list on June 30th. Because De La Rosa was last up with the team on the 15th, Buchholz would have to be activated 15 days after De La Rosa was last up with the club.

If Webster is called up to pitch, Buchholz would be eligible to come off of the disabled list on Monday.

If you’re looking for a night out in Boston you better brace yourself for the tidal wave of black and gold crashing onto the shores of the TD Bank Garden, tonight. After two heart pounding games in Chicago, where many B’s fans enjoyed their first experience with high blood pressure, the series now turns to Boston.

The Bruins head home for game 3 tied 1-1 with Chicago, and now have an opportunity to put all the pressure on the Blackhawks moving forward. During the regular season the B’s went 16-3-5, good enough to capture the second best record in the Eastern Conference and fifth best in the NHL. Since the start of the 2013 playoffs, the Bruins have amassed a 7-2 home record. A significant statistical advantage which they’ll carry into tonight’s game against Chicago.

It’s worth noting that the Bruins two home losses came in the Eastern Conference Quarter-finals against Toronto, which went seven games. Since their last home playoff loss, the Bruins have maintained a perfect 6-0 record on their home ice. It may not be the nitro pill many B’s fans need for their chronic playoff heart failure, but it’s a stat that should put a smile on their face – at least until the puck drops.

If you’re looking for a way to join the sea of black and gold? Don’t get crushed by the wave headed for the Garden, instead, join the movement. Find all your Bruins tickets here and thank me later. Seriously, you’ll be glad you did.

And, as always, don’t poke the bear!

After resting yesterday, the Red Sox are back in action today at Fenway for a double-header against the Rays. That’s just one of a pair of double-headers giving the MLB 17 games on the schedule for today including a full 15 available to Fantasy Baseball daily leagues tonight. Each Monday-Saturday morning you can find my lineup here at SportsReel Boston and get some tips to help you get the most out of yours (full archive here; results at the bottom of the page).

Lots of fantasy baseball daily is picking people in the right matchups. For a look at who is in a matchup that merits either upgrading or downgrading check out our daily matchup post where you’ll find three matchups to attack and three to avoid each day.

Last night, my team set a new personal high-score for me with 142.30 points. Corbin/Scherzer were great while Brandon Barnes my last-second adjustment led the offense with 21. Nick Franklin, Zack Cozart, and Austin Jackson all helped out too, and I was able to finish second overall in my double-up and just outside the top of the freeroll. Make sure as you set your lineup you also join the freeroll so that if you hit it big you get the free payout. Hopefully these picks will keep it rolling tonight.

If there are any changes like there were last night due to who is in the lineup and what games will be weather delayed, I’ll let you know on twitter @ZT_Sports and feel free to fire me any questions you have as well.

Here’s my stating lineup for Tuesday, June 18:

Starting Lineup

SP- Adam Wainwright-St. Louis Cardinals: Since Draft Kings heavily rewards strikeouts and going deep into games, Wainwright is a great pick as he taked on the Cubs in tonight’s game. His last home start he struck out 10 in a complete game eight-hitter allowing just one run to the Giants. At home, Wainwright has a 1.35 ERA and 43 K’s in 40 innings. Those 40 innings have come in five starts meaning he’s averaging 8 innings a start. He has three complete games at home and is holding opponents to a .180 batting average. Add on top of that his matchup with the Cubs offense that has scored three runs or less in seven of their last 11 games, and I think it’s clear that Wainwright is the top pitching option for the day.

SP- Matt Cain-San Francisco Giants: Cain has steadied himself after a few rough outings this season and has allowed a total of one run in his last two starts spanning 13 2/3 innings. He’s also pitched better at home allowing opponents to hit just .197 against him although his ERA is over four due to a couple stinkers. The Padres are playing well, but their lineup is depleted and Cain dominated them last year in two starts allowing just one earned run in 15 innings and going 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA. It just seems like the Giants need a stopper and he’s usually the guy who steps up at home with a great outing. I think he’s got another one in him for tonight.

C- Buster Posey-San Francisco Giants: Posey took a break yesterday until extra innings when he played 1B as a defensive replacement. Before his break, he had multiple hits in six of his last eight games and his average is now up to .315. During that span, he has five doubles, a home run, and 10 RBI. He’ll be back in the lienup tonight against Andrew Cashner of the Padres who Posey has gone 4-9 off in his career with a pair of home runs.

1B-Eric Hosmer-Kansas City Royals: Last night Hosmer doubled and drove in a run as he continued his goos start to June hitting aroung .300 with nine RBI, a home run, and 12 runs scored. He’s a nice value play as he and the Royals take on Ubaldo Jimenez and the Indians. Hosmer is 5-11 with a pair of homer three walks against Jimenez in his carrer.

2B-Nick Franklin-Seattle Mariners: Franklin and the Mariners face 1-10 Joe Blanton tonight in Anaheim. Last night, Franklin extended his six game mini-streak to six games with a hit as he hit connected on his third home run of the year. Franklin hit second which makes him even more valuable since he has better pitches to hit and more chances to score runs in the two-spot. Hopefully Eric Wedge keeps him there.

3B-Anthony Rendon-Washington Nationals: Another good value who has moved up into the second-spot in the lineup is Anthony Rendon of the Nats. He’s in a tough matchup against Cliff Lee tonight, but he’s hitting well even though he lost his ten-game hitting streak last night. He did have a woalk and a run so he avoided the goose egg, but I expect him to be back in the hit column tonight.

SS-Jhonny Peralta-Detroit Tigers: Peralta’s average is up to .332 on the season after going 2-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored yesterday against the Orioles. Tonight Detroit faces recent call-up Zach Britton. Peralta has to be excited to see a lefty on the mound since he’s hitting .424 off them this season with an OPS of 1.120 in his 59 at-bats against them. Look for a good game from Jhonny tonight.

OF-Jay Bruce-Cincinnati Reds: Bruce has been bringing the heavy lumber to work the last few weeks. He’s homered in three of his last four games and has five this month. He’s hitting .323 in his 65 at-bats this month with 13 RBI, 10 runs scored, and two stolen bases thrown in for kicks. Tonight he faces Charlie Morton of the Pirates who he has hit well in his career to the tune of 6-17 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and a walk. Bruce could be in for another big night tonight.

OF- Jacoby Ellsbury-Boston Red Sox: Ellsbury and the Sox face Jake Odorizzi tonight and Ells loves to use his speed to put pressure on young pitchers and attack the Rays especially. In the lsat series in Tampa he went 5-14 in the series with five stolen bases. He should be able to get on tonight and put the screws to the Rays on the basepaths while delighting the Fenway crowd and especially his fantasy owners. So far in June, Ells is hitting .318 with nine runs scored and 10 stolen bases. His OPS in June is .797. He cooled down a little lately, but he did get two hits on Sunday and should be fresh coming into the double-header today. If he’s not in the lineup, I’ll try to finagle salary to go get Puig taking on the Yankees in the Bronx.

OF- Wil Myers-Tampa Bay Rays: It’s most likely that Myers makes his MLB debut against lefty Felix Doubront tonight at Fenway. This kids the real deal and is going to make lots of noise. He’s only 3,800 to start with, but he was widely considered the prospect this year in all the Major Leagues. Come see what all the hooplas about and get points while it happens.

Here’s the matchups I’m trying to attack ad avoid tonight:

3 Matchups to Attack

Boston Red Sox vs Jake Odorizzi (Tampa Bay Rays): The Sox face Odorizzi in the nightcap who hasn’t recorded a decision this year and is looking for his first MLB win. In three games this season, Odorizzi has allowed 11 runs and 17 hits in 12 1/3 innings. This is most likely a one-time start for Odorizzi and the Sox will try to make it as unpleasent as possible as they welcome him to Fenway tonight.

Detroit Tigers vs Zach Britton (Baltimore Orioles): Britton is another recent call up for the Orioles who are patching together their rotation due to injuries and illness. He has only started one game this season giving up six runs in six innings in Seattle. The lefty has been solid at Triple-A but has struggled at the MLB level.

Seattle Mariners @ Joe Blanton (Los Angeles Angels): Blanton is just 1-10 on the year with a 5.87 ERA on the season. He’s lost three straight starts and has allowed opponents to hit .332 against him this season. Most Mariners don’t have a ton of experience against him, but one to watch is Endy Chavez who is 5-11 in his career.

3 Matchups to Avoid

Chicago Cubs @ Adam Wainwright (St. Louis Cardinals): Wainwright looks to become the first 11-game winner in the Major Leagues tonight against the Cubs. At home this year, he has held opponents to a .180 average and is 3-2 with 1.35 ERA. This will be his first outing against the Cubs this year, and some actually have decent numbers against him. I’d stay away, however, since Wainwright is so locked in.

New York Yankees vs Hyun-Jin Ryu (Los Angeles Dodgers): Ryu has turned in four straight quality starts and is now 6-2 with a 1.85 ERA. He comes in with a 1.18 WHIP on the season but has been better lately. He didn’t have his best stuff his last time out, but I’d look for offense in better matchups than this one tonight.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Mat Latos (Cincinnati Reds): Latos allowed four runs to the Cubs his last time out but he had been pitching well prior to that outing. He held Pittsburgh to just one earned run his last outing against them in six innings holding them to just two hits while striking out seven. The batter vs pitcher splits aren’t good for many key Pirates including Garrett Jones (3-21, 8 K’s), Gaby Sanchez (0-5), Neil Walker (4-17, 3 K’s) and even deposed starter Clint Barmes (1-14). Find options from somewhere else tonight.
